The Power Of Commitment Will Change Your Life

By definition: Commitment means to show loyalty, duty or pledge to something or someone. At AutoMax our trainers talk to thousands of auto dealers, automotive sales people and sales managers each year about the true power of commitment and how commitment can literally change the facts of things. How do you change a fact, isn’t a fact a fact?

My oldest son Joe Lockerd about 7 years ago was in fact…the skinny kid that people would kick sand on, Joe could not bench the bar in gym class. Through a 100% commitment [fusion_builder_container hundred_percent="yes" overflow="visible"][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type="1_1" background_position="left top" background_color="" border_size="" border_color="" border_style="solid" spacing="yes" background_image="" background_repeat="no-repeat" padding="" margin_top="0px" margin_bottom="0px" class="" id="" animation_type="" animation_speed="0.3" animation_direction="left" hide_on_mobile="no" center_content="no" min_height="none"][no such thing as 110%, you don’t have that to give] Joe made a commitment to completely change his diet and build and change the shape of his body which in turn changed his attitude towards everything. Today nobody would dare kick sand in Joe’s face, he is one of the strongest men I have ever seen 5% body fat, bench double his body weight …and happy!

Have you ever seen a salesperson that just wasn’t getting it? Then all of a sudden we think the preverbal light came on and he or she started selling like crazy? The only light that came on was that person’s level of commitment to their task at hand.

Commitment and focus need to be as one in my opinion, there are days when I lose focus and at that moment my commitment level decreases as well. I can do that tomorrow, make that call later, reply to that email tomorrow etc. That decision to put off and not commit to following through can have huge impact on a result

Ok, after reading the 4 options below I want you to close your eyes. Really focus in on which one you picked, now quickly ask yourself…How did it turn out? Turn out great? Less than Great? Be honest with yourself here, no sense in being dishonest with yourself.

  1. Past relationship
  2. Education
  3. Job or career
  4. Hobby or sport you engaged in

Now really focus and really be honest with yourself about how that situation turned out and wouldn’t you agree that it turned out the way it did based on the level of your commitment or lack thereof?

Rick Warren Pastor of Saddleback Church in Southern California talked about commitment in his bestselling book “A Purpose Driven Life” “That people's character is defined by the commitments we make or fail to make in our lives”

On the AutoMax Recruiting Website Home Page we have the normal “Mission Statement” that all business have, ours though is something I think about every single day and have committed to.

“If we do what we do better than anyone else does it, someone will find a way to pay us to do it”

Simple saying, sure, make sense, doesn't it? We have made the commitment to offer sales training recruiting, consulting better than anyone else doing it and trust that when we do that, there will be (and there has been) plenty of people willing to pay us based on our commitment to being the best.

There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when circumstance permit. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results.” -Author Unknown

It really all comes down to the story about the Ham and Egg sandwich….The Pig was committed the chicken was involved…..You involved or committed?

  • Absolutely fantastic post! You are right on so many counts, especially the part where commitment and focus are as one. Blur the line of focus and commitment and you also blur the line between success and failure! Great post, great person, great company. Keep it all going Craig!
